ABOUT STEM CELLS
Stem cells are the foundation cells for every organ and tissue in our bodies. This is the name given to a category of cells which can divide indefnitely without losing their properties and can produce specialized cells. Stem cells come from two main sources: embryos (embryonic stem cells) and adult tissue (adult stem cells). MESENCHYMAL STEM CELLS (MSC)
Mesenchymal stem cells can be obtained from tissue such as the fat, bone marrow, menstrual fluid, and placenta. The ability to obtain these cells does not represent any risk to the patient or the donor. The quantities of cells that can be produced in the laboratory are sufficient for long- term treatment.
Mesenchymal stem cells do not have a problem of rejection, they are universal and compatible with any person, and have the potential to differentiate into different cell types such as skin, hair, muscle, bone, cartilage etc. and when infused in the body have the ability to regenerate any of these.
