MESENCHYMAL STEM CELLS (MSC)

The main tissues Mesenchymal stem cells are obtained from are:

Tissue such as fat (adipose), bone marrow, menstrual fluid, placenta, umbilical cord and dental pulp.

The cells that come from different tissues, have different plasticity‘s. Plasticity means the ability to turn into different tissue types.

Mesenchymal stem cells derived from certain tissues have an affinity to turn into different tissue types more frequently. For example, Wharton’s jelly mesenchymal stem cells from the cord have the affinity to turn into neurons. This is why we use Wharton’s jelly mesenchymal stemmcells in all of the neuro cognitive decline protocols at the Regenamex center.

Some fun facts:

-Sourcing these cells from the placenta or cord does not present any risk to the patient or the donor.

-The high quantity of cells that can be produced in the laboratory during expansion, are what is needed for sufficient long- term clinical treatment success.

-Mesenchymal stem cells do not have a problem of rejection, they are universal and compatible with any person.

-They have the potential to differentiate into different cell types such as skin, muscle, bone, cartilage, nerves etc.

-When infused in the body, cells have the ability to regenerate.

Mesenchymal stem cells possess distinct properties such as:

-Histocompatibility (this means there can be no risk of rejection)

-Immune modulation (this regulates and modulates the immune system)

-Homing (this means cells are able to guide their way to areas of Inflamation in our bodies and influence the Micro environment of damaged tissue in order to promote tissue regeneration.) for example, when stem cells regrow blood vessels, this is called angiogenesis.

Allogeneic Mesenchymal stem cells can be harvest from the placenta after normal, healthy births, when the donor has been tested for infectious diseases.

The stem cells are screened and tested to International Blood Bank Standards.

The placenta and cord provide an abundant supply of mesenchymal stem cells and avoids the need to harvest stem cells by invasive procedures, such as liposuction for adipose stemmcells or fromaspersions to harvest cells from the bone marrow.

Evidence shows that mesenchymal stem cells from the placenta and cord are more robust than those from other sources such as fat. The stem cells normally used are from donated placentas and umbilical cords, which are processed in the laboratory.

Donor screening and blood testing are performed for each donation according to strict guidelines set forth by both the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) to guard against any donation that pose a risk of infectious disease transmission.
